Now firmly ensconced in LA, Malcolm McDowell was one of British cinema's greatest angry young men. He was the rebellious teen in Lindsay Anderson's allegorical If...(1968), and the violent Alex DeLarge in Stanley Kubrick's A Clockwork Orange (1971).
His recent films include The Visitors, an English-language remake of the 1993 French hit, and the British indie film, Gangster No 1, in which he co-starred with Paul Bettany and David Thewlis. He nearly went blind working on A Clockwork Orange after Stanley Kubrick pinned his eyes open all day for a shot. He now has a phobia of eye drops.
