Twenty four years after Alex Cox gave us Repo Man the British film-maker is searching for studio support for his follow-up, Repo Chick.
Cox has already written the script for the sequel, which takes place in the US against the background of the subprime mortgage crisis.
"The repo business has expanded to everything from boats, houses, aeroplanes, small nations ... children," Cox told ScreenDaily.com.
The 1984 original starred Emilio Estevez and Harry Dean Stanton in the tale of a young tyro, Otto, who gets recruited as an apprentice repossession agent and gets involved in the hunt for a mysterious 1964 Chevy Malibu with a priceless cargo.
Cox, whose provocative curriculum vitae includes Sid and Nancy, The Winner and Revengers Tale, was speaking at an event to launch his autobiography X Films, True Confessions of a Radical Film-maker.
A retrospective of his films is underway at the Barbican Cinema until July 8 featuring his latest work, the comedy Western Searchers 2.0.
Upcoming projects include a multi-media tie-in to mark the launch of Chumbawumba's album and movie called The Briefcase, about which Cox would not speak except to say: "The subject matter is secret. But it is guaranteed to piss the right people off."
